“Well then? What about marriage?” He inquired with a smirk, almost failing to contain his laugher before he stifled it by inhaling from his cigar.

“Marriage?!” Kaiser choked out with a puff of smoke and some audible giggling. Turning her head away for a moment to try and compose herself as her ears turned slightly, continuing to listen to his ridiculous inquiry.

“Yes! Marriage! C’mon, now. Marriage and kids? Have you never wished to have a few little fur balls running around and messing your stuff up?”

“Ah- Haha! Well, now- Ahem! I- Uhm… I would be lying if I say that I have never thought about it. However... I personally don’t see myself as the type to be fit for engagement. Let alone looking after offspring.”

“Really now?” He exhaled as he continued to face forward, however his eyes did stay on her. This time bearing a far less entertained look than when he initially brought up the joke of a topic. Oh Heaves, she thought, he’s actually being serious about this. Wonderful.

She carefully took in a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling almost painfully slowly as she tried to collect her thoughts, come up with a proper response. Would it not be too quaint or jarring for her to be honest? It had been a while since she was honest with anyone, including herself, come to think of it.

“Well… Yes. I mean, look at me for a moment. I’m- Look at me.” She started as she turned to face him. Her side leaned against the kitchen counter as one of her arms reached for the window, flicking some ash off her cigarette. He gave her the courtesy of turning to face her, however it was with a less than appealing smirk and a raised brow. His expression annoying her slightly, the fact that he still found something about this amusing, despite actually being seriously interested, made a bit difficult for her to continue. Nevertheless, she did.

“The most basic way for a person to describe me would be- Mmm, an alcoholic, mentally-ill, narcissistic workaholic, who cannot even sleep with a person without wanting to kill them afterwards-“

“Oh, Please! You’re not that bad!” He said with a bit of a hoarse chuckle. She huffed with a smirk of her own, making it unclear if her irritation was from being interrupted or from viewing his response as a lie.

“You’re not that bad.” He repeated softly, after they both exhaled another round of smoke.

“I am.” She rebutted in the same tentative tone, her smirk softening to a mere smile.

“Are you?” He rose his brow once more time.

“I am.” She closed her eyes, continuing to smile at him.

“But… You haven’t killed me yet?”

“That doesn’t mean I haven’t felt the need to.”

“Hah! Was I that bad?”

“No. No… You weren’t bad. That’s the thing, Jacob. You were amazing. They all were.”

“… Ohh... Ah… I get it now.”

“Do you?”

“Yes. At least I think I do.”

“Mmm… No. You probably got it.” She gave a satisfied smile before kissing his cheek. “You’re still going to help me clean up, though, aren’t you?”

“Of course.”
